Nick Hentges has an extensive background in insurance company, brokerage, and captive consulting and management operations. Early in his career Nick held several management positions in underwriting and marketing with CIGNA. In 1989, he moved to Kirke-Van Orsdel, a large regional broker that specialized in association programs, to develop its property and casualty book of business. In 1993 Nick joined Captive Resources to develop and manage one heterogeneous and two homogeneous member-owned group captives. He spent 14 years as the Business Development Manager, working with Captive Executives to build new captives and grow existing captives. Nick is a member of the management team that acquired the assets of Captive Resources and sister company Kensington Management Group in the Cayman Islands from its publicly held parent company in 2002. Nick served as President of Captive Resources for three years prior to being appointed co-CEO in 2019 and CEO in 2022. As CEO he focuses on the company’s long-term strategic plans and has presided over unprecedented growth in the company’s casualty and medical stop loss group captive businesses.

Nick has used his 30+ years of captive experience to help educate corporations about the benefits of pooling their resources and lowering their insurance costs through the formation of member-owned group captive insurance companies. He served on the Board of Directors of the Captive Insurance Companies Association (CICA) beginning in 2021 and served as Chairman during 2023-2024. He has been instrumental in supporting the further development and expansion of the Risk Management and Insurance program at the University of Iowa Tippie College of Business, establishing the Hentges Family RMI Faculty Fellowship which will fund one or more faculty fellowships as part of Tippie’s RMI program. Nick’s educational background includes a B.B.A. degree with majors in Finance and Insurance from the University of Iowa and an MBA from Drake University. He also holds the Certified Insurance Counselor designation.
